Biobank HCB-FRCB-IDIBAPS

The Biobank of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona - Fundació Recerca Clínic Barcelona - Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (HCB-FRCB-IDIBAPS Biobank) is a centralized platform that coordinates the collection, processing, storage and procurement of human biological samples and associated data to promote high-quality biomedical research. These samples are available to the scientific community with the aim of promoting personalized medicine. The Biobank is highly specialized in sample processing, providing researchers with several technical services to process human and animal samples. The Biobank works under the ISO9001 quality management system. The Biobank sample catalog is structured in three major banks:· Neurological Tissues Bank (BTN)· Tumour and Tissue Bank (BTT)· Biological Fluids Bank (BFB)People interested in donating neurological tissue for research in neurological diseases can find more information in this  leaflet .

Equipments & Services Offered

The HCB – FRCB – IDIBAPS Biobank features automated equipment that allows sample traceability and quality control, as well as the development of innovative and useful techniques. The most relevant equipment are the following: · Three automated DNA extraction platforms; · An aliquoting station for fluid samples (such as blood, plasma, serum urine or DNA); · Two paraffin processors for tissue inclusion; · Two automated immunohistochemistry platforms; · A TMA platform; · A high-resolution scanner for histological preparations; · A laser microdissector; · A sample selector (Mohawk Tube Picker); The Biobank also features other equipment such as two multihead microscopes, spectrophotometers, microtomes and cryostats, as well as a fully equipped culture room with four laminar flux cabinets, an incubator, a microscope, a freezing ramp and four centrifuges. The facility counts with thirty-nine -80ºC ultrafreezers and six liquid nitrogen tanks, as well as a several refrigerators and -20ºC freezers. Moreover, sample and data are handled through NorayBanks information system and the HCB SAP system.
