Impact: ESG & SDG Goals

Sustainable Development Goals

Envrionmentally, our platform is paperbased, with an strong impact on the environment. Socially speaking, this would result in a good acceptance from the general public. Finally, at governance level, the project is being developed with Fundació IDIBELL, fullfiling the governance transparency

A better diagnose of stroke before the accident happens will reduce the derived cost and its simplicity would be rapidly accepted from the society

Market Data

Problem: Stroke is one of the most prevalent pathologies that cause disability. It is estimated that one in every 6 people will suffer a stroke in their lifetime. There are two main stroke groups, hemorrhagic (15% incidence) and ischemic (85%). Solution: development of a rapid diagnostic test (TDR) for the prediction and monitoring of the risk of ischemic stroke based on the combination of two novel concepts: 1) the use of the of circulating miRNAs as biomarkers, and 2) the technology of μPADs (micro fluidical paper-based analytical device) based on the design of microfluidic devices in paper support, developed by the collaborating company Paperdrop. Licensing of the technology to develop a microfluidic device for diagnose

One of the major market needs upon stroke is to have a cost-effective diagnose

Aged population under risk of soffer an ischemic stroke

DeepTech Area

Funding

Licensed

Final development of miRNA concentration to make it cost-effective and consolidation of the second verison of the diagnostic kit

Further development of the second version of the miRNA test and validation of the MVP

Technology Status

Rapid and cost-effective test microfluidic based for ischemic stroke

Highly competitive market.

Previously, the technology was developing a second version of the test based on the accumulation of miRNA. Now, the license agreement with Paperdrop is almost terminated and the development of the technology is in stand-by.

Additional information

Diagnosing unstable atherosclerotic plaque from a subject, for determining the probability that a subject suffers from a stroke, and/or for the selection of a therapy for a subject suffering from carotid artery disease, that comprises:(i) Determining the expression level of the circulating miRNA in a sample from said subject, and(ii) Comparing the expression level obtained in (i) to a reference value,
