2016-01-008 - PSM-MOFs - Post-Synthesis Modification of Metal Organic Frameworks

Post-Synthesis Modification of Metal Organic Frameworks. The objective of the PSM-MOFs project is to protect a promising technology and to license it to an existing company. ICN2 researchers have developed a new technology for the Post-Synthesis Modification (PSM) of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). This process is faster and with high conversion rates than current technologies. PSM-MOFs can be used independently of the way MOFs have been produced.

Market Data

Previous technologies are based mainly in reactions that involve a Schiff-base condensation. In general this PSM requires long term reactions (1-3 days) and high temperatures. We propose the use of the Spray-Drying (SD) technique to covalent organic reactions based on the Schiff-base condensation reaction. This is a fast, economic and with high conversion rates reaction

The aim of the project is to protect and to license a patent application in the field of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). We focus in the use of MOFs in the automotive industry ,as a natural gas storage.

MOFs are creating high expectations in industry. Their characteristics are optimum for different applications, but they are in a lab scale nowadays. The methods of production must be optimized and scaled up.

Funding

EP patent application writing and filing, PCT modification and filing, Lawyers advice. Look for a suitable licensee

Economical support to file a patent application and a PCT extension. Specialized lawyers advice (legal consultancy).

EP patent application. PCT extension. Licensing agreement

Technology Status

• We can easily scale the technology to the actual industrial requirements, and have products in the market quickly • The technology is interesting for all the companies that produce MOFs.

Early technology in a new market (natural gas storage for the gas automotive industry. Competitive alternative technologies such as electric or Hydrogen-based vehicles.

ICN2 planned route to exploit this technology is via a licensing agreement of the patent application. Our commercialisation target is to approach a company, such as MofApps, BASF, Shoei Chemical, Framergy, NovoMOF, able to scale up the production, produce and sell the MOFS in the market.
