Impact: ESG & SDG Goals
GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
IRB Barcelona adheres to the 3 pillars of ESG, environmental, social and governance, to perform all of their projects with the highest standards
Optical Pad aims to facilitate the use of high content screenings in drug discovery, thus contribuiting, to accelerate the drug discovery process
Market Data
Problem: The use of conventional liquid immersion media, used with immersion objective lenses on optical microscopes to improve resolution are not compatible with the technical requirements of high content screenings. Solution: OptiPad overcomes many of the problems associated with using immersion media with objective lenses, and to enable a new paradigm in multiscale microscopy. It can allow longer working distances without losing resolution (bigger samples can be analysed) and improves the technical hurdles of true high throughput when referring to high content screenings.

Funding
Funding for consumables to develop different prototypes (multiwell plates, foils, resins for 3D printers).
Microscope manufacturers developing systems for high content screening.
Technology Status
Possibility of achieving the high resolution of “immersion objectives” using standard "dry-lenses".
Adaptation to the optical configuration of each manufacturer.
In case the project is resumed and new IP generated, one will prepare an updated business case.
Patent abandoned
Different optimised configurations are being developed and tested
