GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
The institution has a clear commitment towards the inclusion and diversity, employee engagement, human rights and wellbeing. Furthermore, the project has a commitment towards reducing environmental impact, engaging citizenship, and overseed ethical aspects and gender equality, regarding the widespreading of the technology.
Currently, the annual impact of antibiotic‐resistant infections just only in the US and Europe economy reaches $40‐70 billion in excess direct healthcare costs, plus costs to society due to loss of productivity of $70 billion/year and 16 million for additional days in hospital. The emergence and prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria has encouraged vigorous efforts to develop antimicrobial agents with new mechanisms of action and avoid resistance.
Market Data
Resistance to antibiotics is increasingly threatening our ability to fight bacterial infections and to carry out various medical treatments and procedures, including chemotherapy, transplants, and surgery, which require effective antibiotics to minimize complications. Our asset consist of an immunomodulator (MbBOOST) that offers a promising non-antibiotic alternative for the treatment of bacterial infections, especially those caused by MDR, as they have the potential to modulate the host's immune system to combat the pathogens. Our technology has demonstrated to drastically reduce or eliminate infections from resistant bacteria from our infection models.

Creating an attractive preclinical package of results for out-licensing.
Antibiotic resistance is among the most significant threats to human health with annual deaths estimated at 1.3 million worldwide and will produce more deaths than any other illness by 2050. There is a need for alternative treatments for infectious diseases that can effectively treat the disease and especially combat MDR bacteria while minimizing the risk of adverse side effects and antibiotic resistance

1. Dose-response study. Identify the optimal dose and administration route in mice (e.g. oral ingestion, topical application, lung nebulization) to trigger an effective immune response. 2. Efficacy Assessment. Test in mice as both a prophylactic or therapeutic agent against bacterial infections to explore its potential applications (e.g. cutaneous, oral application, systemic). 3. Intellectual property. Secure and expand IP protection through the current patent family with further patent filings and FTO. 4. Market & Regulation. Conduct market research and address regulatory requirements (probiotic or therapeutic agent). 5. Technology Transfer. Engage with probiotic and pharmaceutical companies to bring to market.
Technology Status
A highly effective OTC product that can be used standalone or in combination with other therapeutics.

Additional information
Multidrug-resistant bacteria (MDR) are strains of bacteria that have become resistant to multiple antibiotics, difficult or even impossible to treat with conventional antibiotics. The emergence of MDR is a major public health problem because it limits treatment options and can lead to prolonged illness, increased healthcare costs, and increased mortality rates. To address this problem, healthcare facilities and governments need to take a multifaceted approach that includes infection prevention and control measures, appropriate use of antibiotics, and development of new antibiotics and alternative therapies.Additionally, there is a need for increased surveillance and tracking of MDR to monitor their spread and inform public health interventions.
