The work focuses on resolving the clinical problems produced by these pathological situations, with big impact in our society. Obesity has long been associated with these serious health issues, although it has only recently been regarded as a disease in the sense of being a specific target for medical therapy. Developing obesity treatments that target novel pathways is a growing focus for both biopharmaceutical and the medical device industries, because until now there does not exists any secure and effective treatment.

Aquests resultats tenen una clara aplicació potencial en la indústria farmacèutica, ja que estableixen les bases per a l'ús de l'SHBG com a teràpia contra l'obesitat i les seves comorbiditats relacionades, com ara l'esteatosi hepàtica. Per aquest motiu, hem presentat una patent europea anomenada "Ús de l'SHBG com a medicament" (EP13382202.3), amb data de prioritat del 30/05/2013, i actualment estem buscant socis de la indústria per llicenciar aquesta patent i col·laborar per tal de desenvolupar completament aquesta aplicació potencial.
