ESU -Experimental surgery unit

The general aim of the Experimental Surgery Unit (ESU) is to facilitate scientific and technical research in the area of biomedicine, especially translational research, given that experimentation on large animals is generally a level closer to human application. It is internationally accredited by the AAALAC (Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care).

2 experimental operating rooms, housing capacity 24-48 rabbits, 25-30 pigs and 17 sheep. The operating rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for the different medical specialties, ultrasound, 2 scoping arches, scoping tables and protective aprons, anesthesia and monitoring carts, electric scalpel, infusion pumps, encore, surgical vacuum cleaner

The scope of the 9001 certification includes the services of the Unit for Management in Preclinical Animal Models for the purpose of supporting research and teaching in experimental models; specialized advice on anesthesia, analgesia and resuscitation protocols; pre and postoperative animal care and welfare, surgical and post-surgical care, sampling and necropsy.
