Clinical research platform

The Centre for Drug Research (CIM) began its activities in 1983, in collaboration with the Clinical Pharmacology Department of the HSCSP and the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Department of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Funcions The CIM conducts clinical trials with drugs and clinical research in two areas: RESEARCH AS A BUSINESS UNIT Phase I clinical trials (of no therapeutic interest for participants) in special populations and healthy volunteers (bioequivalence, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, first administration in humans). Collaboration with HSCSP researchers in conducting phase II, III and IV clinical trials. RESEARCH IN NEUROPSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY Evaluation of the effects of psychotropic drugs and other substances active in the central nervous system on the sleep-wake cycle:Studies of effects during wakefulness (behavioural safety). Radioactive installation platform

The Radioactivity Unit provides groups with specific research laboratories in which to work with radioactive isotopes in liquid form. These areas are fully equipped and adapted for the handling of radioactive material and apply optimum measures for the safety and radioprotection of staff and the environment. This area has been authorized by the nuclear safety authority and its staff supervise compliance with the corresponding laws, guidelines and regulations

Cell culture platform

Currently, in vitro cell techniques are a fundamental tool for research carried out by a wide array of scientific groups. The IR Cell Culture Service offers a suitable infrastructure for producing primary cultures and cell lines at different biosafety levels (BSL2 or BSL3), as well as bacterial cultures at biosafety level I.

Genomics and transcriptomics platform

The Genomics and Transcriptomics platform is a core facility focused on giving advice, offering specific services in genomics or transcriptomics techniques, and making specific equipment available to researchers and the scientific community.

Flow cytometry platform

The flow cytometry platform provides users with the latest generation equipment for cytometric analysis and separation of cell populations. Unit staff support users in experimental design, data acquisition, and analysis of results. Furthermore, unit staff performs periodic training of the users to facilitate their non-assisted use of the equipment in the platform.

Biobank and immunohistochemical platform

The Biobank and Immunohistochemistry Platform is a platform to support biomedical research, whose main function is the processing of biological samples according to quality criteria. Its mission is to obtain, process, store, manage and make available to the scientific community human biological samples and associated data, in accordance with agreed standard working procedures, as well as maintaining the traceability of the sample. and its associated data, in order to promote quality biomedical research, respecting the rights of donors. The aim of the IIB Sant Pau Biobank is to increase the accessibility of human biological samples to applicant researchers so that they can use them in their research projects, provided that they meet the ethical and legal requirements required by current legislation. For its part, the Immunohistochemistry laboratories of the Biobank and Immunohistochemistry Platform offer biological sample processing services, both of human origin and animal models, for analysis using histological techniques, from sample processing, cutting and staining until digitization of preparations, histological analysis and delivery of results. The Platform offers the possibility of developing new histological methods and staining, according to the demand and needs of our users, both internal and external. In addition, training is provided to users so that they can use the platform's equipment in self-service mode.

Animal experimentation service platform

The Animal Experimentation Service is the area dedicated to the house and care of experimental animals, and to work with experimental procedures that use them. The staff of the SEA is also officially trained and accredited: Welfare and Animal Health Specialist, Advisor on Animal Welfare, Technicians and Caregivers. Translational research needs a responsible use of experimental animals and the reproducibility of results. The use of animals of high genetic and healthy quality and their use, maintenance and well-being in appropriate facilities are mandatory to obtain these results. The SEA offers its services to maintain the animals in the right conditions and also advices and gives specialized support to the researchers in the design and realization of the experimental procedures and techniques.

Microscopy platform

The Confocal Microscopy Platform is a platform to support biomedical research. Its main function is to advise on experimental design, choice of equipment according to needs and training in the use, acquisition, quantification, and analysis of images.
