Biostatistics Support and Research Unit

The Biostatistics Unit is made up of a team of statisticians and mathematicians who carry out and support biomedical research mainly on the IGTP campus, but also with other public or private entities The unit's mission is to promote excellence in the use of statistical methodology in biomedical research. Its objectives are: Advise and collaborate with research teams throughout the research process: design and statistical analysis, as well as support for the publication of results Research in statistics and applied methodology to improve and enhance biomedical research. Train research staff in methodology and statistics in the field of biomedical research.

CMCiB: Preclinical studies: Biocontainment levels 1, 2 or 3, medical imaging and surgery

The Center for Comparative Medicine and Bioimaging (CMCiB) has been designed and equipped for a wide range of biomedical research and technological development and maintains strict standards of sustainability and research within the 3R policy. The CMCiB is a unique combination of public infrastructure and business partners. It offers opportunities for advanced biomedical research, surgery innovation and technological development, with the support of expert consulting services and state-of-the-art teaching programs for healthcare professionals and researchers from around the world. The center is equipped with the latest surgical diagnostic imaging facilities, including experimental technologies under development; this is possible thanks to collaborations with collaborating companies. The expressly built facilities include conventional, biocontainment and barrier environments for rodents. Each area is designed with integrated laboratories and specialized areas to maximize animal welfare and reduce the need for movement and transportation of subjects and materials. At all times the CMCiB is dedicated to applying the principle of 3Rs and to encouraging the use of alternative methods for preclinical research. Our professionals will advise on the use of alternative methods for preclinical research made available through collaborations. Biobank IGTP-HUGTP

The objective of the Biobank is to promote biomedical research by obtaining, storing and providing tissue samples, fluids and/or their biological derivatives in optimal conditions and in compliance with current legal regulations.The Biobank is structured in the following units: Fluid node. It works with a wide variety of samples (blood derivatives and other biological fluids, DNA, RNA) corresponding to different types of diseases or population groups. Tumour Bank. One of the most important resources in the study of cancer are tumour tissues, as well as control (non-tumour) tissues. Precisely, the objective of the Tumour Bank is to obtain and store these samples to offer them to researchers and advance in improving the diagnosis, prognosis, prevention and/or treatment of cancer. Animal Bank. Obtains and preserves tissue and blood samples for research purposes. It also provides support in the creation of animal models, maintenance and/or administration of treatments.

High content genomics and bioinformatics

The IGTP high-content Genomics and Bioinformatics facility originated from the Genomics and Bioinformatics Laboratory created in 2009 as a basic facility of the Institute of Predictive and Personalized Cancer Medicine (IMPPC). It offers advice and support in genomics and bioinformatics to research groups at the Can Ruti Campus and other institutions, focusing on the generation and analysis of high-content data. The main objective of the IGTP high-content core genomics and bioinformatics facility is to provide researchers with access to state-of-the-art genomics technologies and bioinformatics analysis tools.

Microscopy

The Microscopy Platform was created to provide scientific and technological support to research groups and clinical services for microscopy-based experiments throughout all steps from experiment planning and execution, imaging, to image post-processing. The facility provides consultations both IGTP and external groups who require it. Initial training and refresh sessions are organized for new and returning users on request. Trained and authorised users can then use the facility on a self-service basis or with the help of the facility staff, depending on their needs. For all queries please contact Dr Jakub Chojnacki.

Metabolomics

The facility offers consulting and services in fields of study that require proteomics or metabolomics techniques based on mass spectrometry. We configure the analysis of metabolites using differential or directed profiles (specific molecules) in any type of biological fluid or tissue including respiratory exhalation. We will perfect any new test in these two fields required by our customers. The activity of Proteomics and Metabolomics Core Facility is based on collaborations with researchers to refine the necessary technique, analyze samples and prepare the results. We focus on the biomedical field; identification and validation of biomarkers, disease mechanisms through protein expression profiles, post-translation modifications, and protein-protein interactions.

High performance computing (HPC)

The scientific computing facility provides the infrastructure and software tools required by researchers (e.g. bioinformaticians and biostatisticians). The goal of the facility is to help investigators with their computational needs allowing them to focus on scientific challenges. These needs range from advice on best practices for scientific computing, software installation, server set-up and even the design of custom solutions for certain computing needs. The platform is continuously updated with the latest technologies in storage, virtualization, automation and software management to offer state-of the art services.

Cytometry

The Cytometry platform was created in 1999 as a research support service within the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute, on the Can Ruti campus in Badalona. In addition, it also provides a clinical diagnostic service in Immunology at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital and teaches annual training courses in flow cytometry. The platform provides cell separation, analysis and acquisition services in flow analyzer cytometer, consulting and training. Since February 2006, the Cytometry platform has been located on the ground floor of the IGTP’s Mar building. It consists of 64 m2, distributed in an exclusive laboratory for the use of the cell separator and a space dedicated to the flow cytometer analyzers, as well as a computer area for off-line analysis.

Translational genomics

The Translational Genomics Platform was set up in 1999 at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital (HUGTP) and is currently part of the basic IGTP facilities. The unit offers technical, methodological and scientific advice to researchers at the Can Ruti Campus and to external research groups who request it. Its aim is to promote research, innovation and training in genomic technologies. At the same time, it offers a daily genetic analysis service in the diagnostic units of the Germans Trias Hospital. The unit regularly organizes and participates in technical training courses for students of the Master in Immunology (Master in Immunology, UB-UAB) for technical support staff. It also offers a consulting service. The central installation of translational genomics is art from the Can Ruti Sequencing Center, the observatory of different variants of SARS-CoV-2.
